About The National right to life Political Action Committee

The National Right to Life Political Action Committee (NRL PAC) is by far the most effective single-issue pro-life political action committee in the country. Realizing that the only way to win the battle and restore legal protection to innocent human lives was to elect pro-life men and women to office, National Right to Life created the National Right to Life Political Action Committee in 1979. NRL PAC has been involved in every federal election since Ronald Reagan’s victory over Jimmy Carter in 1980, and has a proven record of success.

In 2012, a new independent expenditure political committee, the National Right to Life Victory Fund, was created to expand and enhance National Right to Life’s political impact. The combined power and experience of National Right to Life’s political committees, and its network of dedicated volunteers, help make the difference in close elections, and very often provide the margin of victory for pro-life candidates.

NRL PAC‘s charge is straightforward: to actively support electable candidates for federal office who will work to further the goals of the right-to-life movement, focusing on the most competitive races in the nation. In 2014, 90% of the 287 federal candidates endorsed by National Right to Life won their elections. Of those 287, NRL PAC and NRL Victory Fund focused on 74 of the most competitive federal races. Despite being vastly outspent by pro-abortion groups, 76% of the 74 candidates supported by National Right to Life won.

National Right to Life, its political entities, and its state affiliates worked hard to expose the stark differences between the candidates on life issues, including candidates’ positions on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the use of tax dollars to pay for abortion, and the pro-abortion, pro-rationing Obamacare law. National Right to Life and its political entities contacted more than 3.3 million identified pro-life households, hand-distributed an additional 1.3 million pieces of literature among the 3,000 local chapters, called more than 1.5 million pro-life households, and aired 33,000 radio ads on more than 1,200 radio stations nationwide, including ads on Spanish-language radio stations.

The effort paid off. National Right to Life candidates won 72% of the 18 Senate races, and 77% of the 56 House races. In the end, there was a net-nine pro-life gain in the U.S. Senate, allowing pro-life Senator Mitch McConnell to take the leadership position from pro-abortion Senator Harry Reid. Pro-life Speaker Paul Ryan leads a strong pro-life majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 2016, whatever happens in the presidential race, the struggle for majority control of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives will have sweeping implications for the future of the pro-life movement. The loss of the pro-life Republican majorities would be devastating to life issues.

The 2016 Senate elections will be tough. Twenty-four Republican seats are up compared to only ten Democrat seats. Democrats only need a net gain of five, or a net gain of four if they win the White House (in which case the Vice President would cast tie-breaker votes), to have a majority. Overall, Democrats need a net gain of 30 seats to take pro-abortion control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Since 1973, more than 58,000,000 defenseless babies have been aborted – more than 3,000 each day, 365 days a year. When we stay home on election day babies die, allowing atrocities seen in the Kermit Gosnell murder trial to continue daily across the nation. The 2016 election gives us another opportunity to strengthen pro-life support in the House and the Senate against the Obama abortion agenda, so we can continue with the goal of protecting the most vulnerable. If we stay the course, if we continue to work and organize, 2016 will truly bring needed change to Washington, D.C., and to our nation.
